Friend, are you searching for something that will give you peace and happiness? Are you searching in relationships, possessions, or fulfilling of goals, only to find that when you have acquired what you thought would bring you joy, you are still left somehow... empty? Let me ask you another question. If you knew that you were going to die in the next half hour, do you know for sure that you would go to heaven? Do you have that assurance, or have you been seeking it? Let me introduce you to the one precious possession that will both give us everlasting peace, and the promise of everlasting life: JESUS.
How DO you get to heaven, anyway?
By going to church 3 times a week? By joining this church, or that church? By being baptized as an infant or as an adult? By being "good" and living a "good" life? By believing in God? By going to church on Easter and Christmas?
Friend, none of these things will merit us a place in heaven. We may attend church regularly; we may have been baptized; we may acknowledge that God does exist out there somewhere; we may have joined a church; we may live a good life and may not have committed any horrible crimes.
But God tells us in His holy word that none of these things will get us to heaven--nothing WE can do can cleanse us of the sin that will send our eternal soul to hell. Matthew 7:21,23 says, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." None of us like to think of ourselves as being bad enough to be condemned to everlasting punishment in hell, but when we compare ourselves with God, we just don't measure up. God is perfect--we simply are not. We are born with a sinful nature, and we can't make it an hour after getting up out of bed before we sin. Heaven is a pure and perfect place, where only sinlessness will reside, and we cannot attain that sinless state no matter what we do.
We also do not like to think that hell is real; that, somehow, if we push it aside and refuse to accept the truth, that it will somehow pass us by and will not apply to us. Friend, if you believe in God, you must believe in heaven and also in hell, for He created both. There is no 'warm place', no purgatory, no big eternal party where you'll be drinking with your buddies. Jesus himself gives an actual account of a man in hell in Luke 16. (We know that this is an actual account because He uses the names of those involved. To further prove that this isn't a parable, the rich man in hell calls Abraham 'father' several times, and asks that Lazarus go tell his 5 brothers that hell is real. Why? Go back to Genesis 25:2; Abraham's second wife bore him 6 sons, and this was one of his sons. Don't you think that if there were a way to remove his own son from hell, his father would have done it?)
However -- God loves us so much that He sent His only Son, pure and undefiled, to take our sins on Himself and accept our punishment. Jesus has the power to overcome death and rise from the grave; He also has the power to place our sins under His blood, so that we can merit heaven when we realize that we have sinned and ask God to forgive us of our sins. Salvation by God's grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, is the only way to get to heaven. It's so simple! God wants us to have a personal relationship with Him; He wants us to talk to Him, to search Him out, to know Him and depend on Him. We strive to be at peace in our surroundings, our relationships, our employment, our pasttimes, but we fall short. Don't you want the peace that only God can give us? Please read what God has said about us, and what He did for us.
Who is good?
Romans 3:10-12 “ As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one: there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” Who has sinned?
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
The eternal cost of our sin.
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death.”
Romans 1:18a “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men,”
Nothing YOU can do can save you.
Romans 3:20a “Therefore by the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified in his sight:”
Romans 3:27 “Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Nay: but by the law of faith.”
BUT
God’s love has made a way!
Roman’s 5:8-9 “But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth on him might not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.”
You must place your complete faith in Jesus Christ.
Romans 3:22 "Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference.”
Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 3:28 “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.”
If you really believe that Jesus Christ can save you…
Romans 4:21 “And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”
Acts 16:31 “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.”
…then pray and ask him.
Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Romans 10:11 “For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."
Romans 6:23 “… The gift of God is eternal salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
You are not promised a tomorrow.
2 Corinthians 6:2 “(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)”
If you will accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, please pray in true sincerity the following:
"Dear God, be merciful to me, a sinner. I am sorry for my sins, and now trust Jesus Christ to save me. I believe that He was born of a virgin as the Son of God manifested in humanity, gave His life on the cross to take my punishment, and rose again from the dead, proving His power to save my soul. I now take Him as my Lord and Saviour. I ask for eternal life that He paid with His own precious blood. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
